Deschutes Research, Inc. was formed in 1996 by Herb Severson, Ph.D. DRI's mission is to provide the opportunity for research scientists and research staff to create public health enhancement products that are scientifically-proven to be effective in changing health behaviors.
The company began with a focus on tobacco prevention and cessation. This was a natural starting point due to Dr. Severson's long history of being an investigator on NIH-funded grants in this area. Under his direction, DRI has created interactive multimedia programs to assist tobacco users in quitting habitual use of snuff, chew or cigarettes, as well as training materials for health educators and health care professionals.
Recently, DRI has branched out to other areas of health-related research and development. We currently collaborate with scientists throughout the country to develop a wide range of programs and products that can be used to promote health and well being. Consistent throughout the development of all of our programs has been the use of media in our products and services. Recently most of our products involve interactive media that is delivered via the Web or by computer.
